Do you know that fear-based thoughts & emotions sabotage us daily? So what are fear-based thoughts and feelings? They are anything that is negative and not coming from a space of positivity, good or love. Some good examples are criticism, judgmental-ness, anger, sadness, jealousy, aggression, annoyance, anxiety, shame, emptiness, irritation, loneliness, pessimism, scepticism, worry and many more.
How do they sabotage us?
When I was going through a rough time in my personal life, feeling depleted, run down and lacking the support system I needed while going through a tiring and energy-zapping time in my marriage then, I had to stop everything I was doing. I could not do any coaching work and had to rethink how I wish to live my life and make a better life for myself and my daughter. At that time, I was already teaching this work, and I had a real taste and test of walking my talk. It was easy to slip and go down the hole of darkness.
At one point, while struggling to stay afloat and trying to keep positive, continually treading water, I was tempted just to let go, and sink. It was a thought that crept in when I wasn’t looking. It was easy for it to come in because my psychological immunity system was compromised. I felt the walls around me caving in on me, and I didn’t have the energy to fight off the negativity. Fortunately, by some miracle, a lifeline dropped on my lap. I saw it for what it was and hung on for dear life. It was many months of hard work to get myself back on track mentally, and then another two years to get my life back on the road.
Negativity can creep up on us and will continue to do so no matter how much we know or how long we have been doing this work. Daily, we need to pop our vitamin for positive psychology and be real to what is happening around us.
Having a robust, powerful and loving support system to call us out when we are sinking is so essential. At a time like this, sometimes all we need is some tough love to save us.
